I hate to shave. I’ve tried every cream, gel, lotion, and aftershave imaginable. I’ve tried every conceivable manual razor and I’ve even overpaid for an electric. For me, the torture of shaving doesn’t stem from the amount of time it takes in the morning or the feeling like it’s a hassle. It’s just that every time I try to shave, no matter the product being used, I walk away needing 15 to 20 minutes before I can touch my face again.
Somewhere in my mind, lives the idea of a romanticized and ideal morning routine. I’m thinking of one that jump-starts my day, rather than being worn out before I make it out the bathroom. I love the idea of waking up, having a cup of coffee, listening to a great Charlie Parker album, all the while lathering up with some luxurious cream and a brush, then shaving with a bone handle razor that costs more than my first car. Realistically, I’m running around in the morning, chasing my kids in an attempt to put clothes on them, and considering myself lucky if I can take a shower and shave while not being late to work.
In search of the mythical products to fulfill my dream morning, I’ve recently tried a new product made by familiar drugstore brand Edge called Edge Infused. Actually, I’ve tried both products in their Infused line, Comfort and Hydrate. I’m happy to report that for the first time since I was 15 (yes, I’m hairy), I’ve been able to shave in the mornings with great comfort with a product so well priced. Both are lotion-ized shaving gels and both contain vitamins and antioxidants. The Comfort Gel contains natural ingredients Witch Hazel and Linden, and has been formulated to help reduce irritation caused by shaving (hence, perfect for me). Even better, it leaves my face feeling smooth and less irritated. The Hydrate Gel contains Ginseng, Caffeine (bold blend?), and Watermint and is intended to help moisturize and invigorate dry skin, leaving my face with a cool aftershave feeling. Without adding any extra steps to my already hectic morning routine, the Edge Infused products have given me a close, comfortable shave without the pain that I’m use to. The best part? Both Edge Infused offerings cost less than a large Sumatran blend. I’d consider devoting a part of your coffee budget to a caffeine infusion for your face.
