Move over old toboggan, it’s time for a better way to get your kicks in the snow. Built by Mattracks, known for providing custom rubber track conversion systems for 4X4 vehicles, the Mattracks Powerboard is a new kind of snow machine that combines the rubber track “wheels” of a snowmobile (or snow machine, if you’re Todd Palin) with the body and maneuverability of a scooter. Remarkably, its long, wide track provides flotation, similar to way snow shoes operate, and keeps the rider moving over a “cushion” of snow. It also gives the Powerboard extreme maneuverability, thanks to flex in the rubber track which curves and shifts sideways as riders lean in either direction.

Designed for flat, snowbound areas, this 200 CC powerboard can reach up to 18mph and easily supports the weight of most users, even in deep powder. It’s stand on design also eliminates the need for special boots or bindings. For control and power, like a motorcycle, the vehicles throttle is mounted on the T-bar handle, while the chassis is mainly comprised of aluminum for strength. The engine housing and decking is molded in high density plastic, which provides durability without much additional weight.

Unfortunately, to get your own, you’ll have to contact Mattracks directly to find a point of local distribution. From the images and video we’ve seen of this thing, though, for anyone who spends time in the snow, working up the motivation to call shouldn’t be an issue. More shots of the board up close and a video of it in action below.
