Back in November, Kingsford Charcoal invited us to attend Kingsford University, a several day event that involved tuning and honing our grilling skills and wine tasting chops. Yes, college would have been far more interesting this way. Never ones to turn down an opportunity involving fire lighting or consuming fine vittles and vino, we headed to the beautiful Bay Area in Northern California.
Most of Kingsford University took place at Seghesio Vineyards in Sonoma. Seghesio Vineyards is a beautiful winery dating to 1895 and one of a handful of bonded wineries to make it through prohibition. While there, we were tutored (and consistently awed) by BBQ World Champion Chris Lilly. We crafted grilled pizzas (awesome), learned how to make our own grill rubs (still need more practice), and learned how to properly shred a pork butt (sounds wrong, tastes great). All the while, we sampled fantastic wines, even making our own Zinfindel blend in the process. Sometimes it’s not easy bringing you the best content we can muster, but we sacrifice for you the readers.
