Tyler Jones | New Gear Patrol Contributing Intern
From Dusty Overby: I hope you’ll all join us in welcoming another new member to the Gear Patrol fraternity, Tyler Jones. We found this promising lad wandering round our southern HQ, seemingly lost amidst the swell of men’s sites that he regularly peruses. The wizened talent scouts we are, we asked him if he’d like to do a little less reading and a bit more writing. We’re glad he took up the challenge. You’ve already seen some of his work and you should see more of his internet-scouring prowess, on the regular, going forward.
Good day all, my name is Tyler. Up until recently, when I haven’t been attending class at the University of Tennessee in (mostly) sunny Knoxville, Tennessee, I have been spending too much time browsing tech blogs and social networking sites. Generally, this learning is about stuff pointless to me in my academic pursuits (I had the nickname “The Wikipedian” in high school), but it should come in handy here at Gear Patrol. It’s no coincidence that I hail from the hometown and alma mater of both Eric and Dusty, though they’ve encouraged me to avoid earning some of the same dubious academic distinctions that they were known for here.
While I do enjoy technology much more than an average person, with my ever growing addiction to my Blackberry, I find time to work out regularly, and when I can get to the ocean, I enjoy surfing much like Roger. Along with this, I’m borderline obsessive about music. When I’m not playing guitar or piano, I’m listening to music and trying to find my next favorite band (my last.fm profile is currently above 50,000 plays, as of writing this). That’s all I can really say about me, and with that, I will leave you with this piece of advice, something I learned in high school and has stayed with me until this day: don’t invade Russia in the winter.
