Many of Jon Hughes’s movies may have immortalized nerds in the 80s as the most socially awkward characters to ever walk planet, but at some point nerds eventually grow up. No amount of time though can wash away the fond memories many newly minted adults have of long sessions glued to the tube, button mashing their way through all manner of 8 bit worlds. Or at least that’s how 8 Bit Vintner founder Mike James sees it. So as his passion for wine making began to form, it only made sense to brand his creation in a theme appropriate with his childhood love in life.
As he says “my wine is for anyone who spent time trying to save a princess or fit odd shaped blocks together. We may have never met, but we have more in common than we ever knew. So blow out that old Contra cartridge, give the NES a good dust off, and pour yourself a glass.” In terms of what he exactly recommends pouring, his first vintage is a Syrah Blend appropriately labeled Player 1, which is made from the grapes of high end vineyards in the Columbia and Walla Walla Valleys in Washington. Selling for $18 a bottle, it’s a great gift idea for your fellow reformed nerd compatriots, or just an interesting option to try out during your pursuit of wine mastery.
