See This: World’s Largest Photo (45-Gigapixels)

There’s just something great about seeing gear reviewed on Gear Patrol used in ridiculous situations. Case in point: using the pro variation of the GigaPan Epic ($450), we reviewed last year, ambitious photographer Gerald Donovan has just taken the world’s largest photograph, for now. The above panorama of Dubai (appallingly ironic) is a 45 gigapixels (not mega… giga) photograph made of 4,250 jpg using 27.5 GB of memory shot over a span of 3.5 hours. How much ink would that use, you ask? If it were printed it would be about the size of 1,200 roadside billboards… or roughly a half mile of I-40.
Check out the actual image on Gigapan or the making-of video after the jump.
