City of War by Neil Russell

You Won't Find This City on Any Map

By Patrick Tuttle on 5.19.10

Ask yourself; what would you do if you saw a naked women running for her life down a gridlocked LA freeway? Seriously.

If you’re anything like Rail Black, then you’d rush to the rescue. What our protagonist didn’t realize though is has initiated a globe spanning, murder-mystery adventure. The problem is, Black doesn’t have a clue why they are chasing after (gorgeous) Kimberly York. Not to mention, she’s not exactly filling in the blanks. Perhaps it’s tied to her secret trips to Europe, or a generations-lost art treasure. Either way, everyone is looking for the City of War. As an ex Delta Force, heir to a billion dollar publishing empire, Rail Black towers in all facets of his Beverley Hills lifestyle (yeah, he’s a big guy too). Black is packed with resources, connections, and a willingness to seek revenge (or justice based on your perspective) at a near suicidal commitment. It serves to protect those close to him and will become a major problem for a group of men who are use to being the bully.

Our Take: Neil Russell has weaved some thrilling actions sequences with a gradually unwinding mystery that should keep you coming back. It’s not a classic page-turner, but the relationships that Rail crafts are as fascinating and fully explored as the answers he’s seeking. The details of Rails life, his personal interactions and his, er… conquests provided more than enough intrigue to fill the pages between shootouts.
