Akadema Patriot Series Reptilian Baseball Glove

An American Glove for an American Sport

By Ethan Dougherty on 6.18.10

In 2008, Avadema, a brand known for professional grade baseball gloves brought their manufacturing back to America, going against the established grain of many sports outfitters. Besides the obvious benefits of domestic production, Akadema has focused on upping quality in their products. Their gloves are used by players like Phillies’ All-Star centerfielder Shane Victorino and Oakland’s Brad Zeigler.

The Akadema Patriot Seres Reptilian ($200), a glove we had a chance to test (granted weekend beer leagues are hardly pro baseball), is a great example of that. It features a unique fingerless design with a natural air pocket to reduce initial ball impact shock and provide easier scooping on ground balls. Additionally, the air pocket also creates a natural depression when the ball is caught to keep it within the glove longer. The design is radical but the functionality is 100% pure competitive edge.
