Tumi Vapor Luggage | Medium Packing Case

Dropping the Lug In Luggage

By Eric Yang on 7.6.10

That ratty suitcase you’ve been lugging since your semester abroad? Chuck it. It’s time for some modernization in the luggage department. We’ve had the Tumi Vapor Medium Packing Case ($495) with us on several, mindbendingly-long excursions this past month and Tumi’s claims of hardside protection and lightweight maneuverability are indeed present and accounted for. Read on to see why.

The linchpin around the Tumi Vapor lineup is accomplished through a unique construction of lightweight, triple-layer, high-performance combination of ABS plastic and polycarbonate. The material manages to look sharp in Tumi’s exoskeleton-like design, especially in graphite as shown in our tester (above). It pairs well with Tumi’s other products, but also stands well alone. Leather duffel, canvas messenger, or even our Tumi Alpha Bravo Tote.

The Medium Packing Case, though not excitingly named, strikes a key balance between offering enough room for week-long trips or two-person weekend getaways. At 25″, the case also best showcases the Vapor lineup design. Simple in execution and packed with features, Tumi has held little back with the Medium Packing Case: patented X-Brace aircraft-grade aluminum telescoping handle with protective interior braces, four 360° swivel wheels, TSA surface-mounted locks, retractable carry handles, Omega 2010 zipper system, snap ID tag, removable garment sleeve, zip pockets, divided packing section with curtain, and tie-down straps. Sure, we wouldn’t have minded an exterior pocket but this is a case that’s meant for checking and paired with a light carry-on.

Tumi also offers an International Carry-on ($395) and closet swallowing Extended Trip Packing Case ($545) in the Vapor line.

Keep an out eye out for a slew of upcoming products we’re reviewing from Tumi.
