21st Amendment Brewery Beer

Because Prohibition Sucked

By Ben Bowers on 7.16.10

San Francisco residents may be already intimately familiar with 21st Amendment Brewery located in the city’s historic South Park neighborhood, just a few blocks away from the Giants’ home turf. For the uninitiated however, one of the best things about this company (besides its product) is its founding story. Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan were two men separately searching for a purpose in life, who both felt an undertow-like tug from beer. So after spending time working at a brewery and writing for a beer focused publication, destiny finally decided to let them cross paths at a UC Davis summer course on brewing science (..why didn’t we major is this?). 21st amendment brewery was born from the friendship, and the rest is delicious beer history. Thanks to the success of their endeavors, curious beer drinkers not in the Bay Area now have the chance to try the brewery’s unique offerings. To learn more about their flavors, keep reading below.

Hell or High Watermelon wheat beer:
Obviously a choice geared for summer, this fruit enhanced brew combines watermelon in the fermenting process along with watermelon juice, for a refreshing twist on the traditional yeast flavored warm weather staple.

Monk’s blood:
If you’re not turned off by the name, dark beer fans will love this hearty seasonal winter staple. Distinguished by flavor notes of dark Belgian candy sugar, vanilla beans, cinnamon, and dried mission figs, it’s a robust beer that was born to be sipped by the fire with a plate of rich food.

Brew Free or Die Ipa:
This is the brewery’s most popular offering and it’s even available now on Virgina America Flights. So keep that in mind the next time you’re looking to take the edge off from 30,000. Known for a punchy nose and clean addicting finish, enjoy it year round.

Why serve craft ale in a can?:
According to 21st amendment, that decision was made because the beer stays fresher and they’re better for the environment. So quit your snobbery.
