Sourced from fine Blue Weber agaves harvested in the highest regions of Jalisco, Mexico and distilled through a rare, ultra-slow, proprietary process, Tequila Avión ($45-$55) isn’t your every-day tequila. Its filtration process takes about 10 times the length of traditional ones in order to reach something Tequila Avión calls “the moment of elevation.” In fact, its founder, Ken Austin knows a thing or two about exclusivity and elevation – his day job is the Executive Vice Chairman of Marquis Jet. Offered in Silver, Resposado, and Añejo, the drink is smooth to sip and the Silver format we partook tasted deliciously smooth with hints of mint, rosemary, grapefruit, and pineapple and a touch of black pepper.
Take Note: Don’t be afraid to mix. Our favorite: the simple Blood Orange Margarita. 1.5 oz Tequila Avion, 3/4 oz Cointreau orange liqueur, 1 oz Blood Orange Juice, 1/2 oz Fresh Sour Mix. Shake over ice, strain, and serve with orange twist.
