Camelbak M.U.L.E.

Stubbornly Versatile

By Guest Writer on 7.29.10

If you’re a gear enthusiast, then hydration packs are likely no stranger. There’s even a good chance you’ve got one (or two) sitting in your closet. If you live in a warm climate it’s doubtful you’ll find a better hydration back for day trips than the Camelbak M.U.L.E. ($90). The crippling effect of 95° days and 80% humidity are mere deterrents to the passionate outdoorsman, but sometimes that can lead to nonsensical acts, like going on 30 mile bike rides in the dead of summer. Bringing a MULE along may not save your life, but hydration can go a long way to counterbalance even the more absurd Gear Patrol readers, this writer included.

The unique “air director” design on the back panel ensures air circulates between your back and the pack. At 24 oz you won’t feel overburdened by the weight of the MULE. A 100 oz (3-liters for you metric types), insulated reservoir is sized perfectly for day excursions and comes with a lifetime warranty. In addition, the pack has room to carry an extra layer, lunch, multi-tool, pump, spare tube, wallet, and keys. Proof shown after the jump. It even has a handy compartment towards the top to place your MP3 player. Finally, and most importantly, the MULE will stay securely on your back while you’re navigating the trial on foot or 2 wheels via adjustable waist belt, chest strap, and a Dynamic-Suspension™ harness.
