Chock full of catchy slogans and in-your-face can design, Surly Brewing Company has exploded onto the craft brewery scene in a short amount of time. Founder Omar Ansari started this company from, surprise, a home-brew kit and never looked back. (a topic that one our readers and occasional contributors will be covering in the coming months.) With masterful brewing techniques, a goal to produce fantastic tasting beer and a flair for making his product break through industry standards Surly has enjoyed great success. Beer Advocate even voted Surly the top American Brewery in 2007 because of the palate party tastes of Furious, Bender, and Cynic.
These are not your typical watery light beers that you and your college buddies are going to shotgun; they are full-bodied, full flavored, high ABV man-drinks! Take Furious, self-described as “brewed with a dazzling blend of American hops and Scottish malt, this crimson-hued ale delivers waves of citrus, pine and caramel-toffee. For those who favor flavor, Furious has the hop-fire your taste buds have been screeching for.” Had enough Sam Adam’s, Newcastle, and Honey Weiss? Well, perhaps it’s time to get Surly.
