The Perfect Excuse to Hurl Hardware
There are three things that every man has an affinity for: construction, competition, and consumption (note: it’s generally a good idea to save the consumption till after the construction is complete). Fortunately, this weekend project enables you to accomplish all three. The design is simple: build a wood box and mount a piece of PVC pipe (or a coffee can) in the center of the box. The objective is equally as simple: try and accumulate a set number of points (usually 21) by throwing washers into, or near the pipe. Like fantasy football, the points system will vary depending upon who you ask. It’s a lot like horseshoes, only with the added advantage that you can take it with you wherever you go; the beach, your backyard, tailgating, your daughter’s piano recital, etc. As with most activities, the enjoyment of Washers only increases when you add good friends and good beer. If you don’t feel manly enough to build your own set, you can always purchase one pre-made.
