Hidetoshi Nakayama Bolt Action Writing Pen

... Is Mighter Than the Sword

By Thomas Grisi on 10.4.10

Pens as we know them haven’t progressed much beyond their fairly utilitarian ways of concealing the pen tip, which saves ink, and your clothes from looking like you just tangoed with an octopus. And unless Apple comes out with a way to squeeze ink out of an iPad, the pen as we know it is here to stay (for now). This is all well and good, but for what most pens have in function they usually lack in originality. Hidetoshi Nakayama’s Bolt Action Writing Pen ($550) truly separates the men from the Bics. The pen itself is 5” long, weighing in at a hefty 3 oz, about the weight of 16 generic office pens (What else is the office scale good for?). The price of originality comes in at $550, a tad expensive, but then again, there’s no Bic pen that we know of with a bolt action.
