Unsung Mine Rescue Heros | Jeff Hart and Matt Staffel of Denver, CO & Brandon Fisher of Berlin, PA

By Eric Yang on 10.14.10

Behind yesterday’s San Jose mine rescue in Copiapo, Chile were countless heroes ranging from the trapped miners, rescue miners, families, supporters and colleagues. It was a momentous occasion to say the least, but among the masses were several unsung heroes hailing from the USA. Though you may have already read about the Oakley sunglasses worn by the rescued miners, serious credit is due to the gear (and their respective pilots) used in the landmark rescue – also developed here in the States. Clockwise from top left: drill operators Jeff Hart, left, and Matt Staffel, right, both from Denver, Colorado; the T130XD Drill Rig built by Schramm in Chester County, PA; the now famous “Plan B” T-130 Hammer Drill bit developed by Center Rock Inc. of Somerset County, Pennsylvania; and Brandon Fisher (second left) of Center Rock Inc. in Berlin, Somerset County, PA.
