Tasting Notes: Balvenie 14 Year Caribbean Cask
Lets get right to the taste. Balvenie 14 Year Caribbean Cask is unique whisky that caps off a 14 year maturation process with its transition from whiskey to the rum filled barrels to add hints of toffee and fruit to the already outstanding honeyed character of Balvenie. Known as a rum cask finished whisky, the Caribbean Cask ($49) is transferred from whiskey barrels to once filled rum casks at the end of the aging process to produce a creamy taste with hints of vanilla and provides a fruity character that develops with time, leaving the beholder with a soft, lingering taste while adding spicy aromatic qualities of rum to the whisky.
Backed by a distillery that still grows its own barley and malts in its own floor malting, the latest member of the Balvenie family holds true to its name’s outstanding quality. The end result is a brilliant Single Malt worthy enough to be called Balvenie, yet rich enough with subtle hints of fruit to provide an intense new sensation to an already loved taste.
