Take It For What It Is
We’ll be honest. The Expendables isn’t a good movie per se — and it certainly won’t be up for any golden statue nominations. If you approach the film as the ridiculous farce of a blockbuster action film that it is however, watch it and you’re bound to have a good time. We won’t divulge any spoilers (as if the plot wasn’t already something you’ve watched a thousand times), but there are plenty of laugh out loud moments in the film, both of the intentional and unintentional variety. For instance, choice cameos by Arnold and Bruce Willis are perfectly played cards in the film’s bag of nostalgic tricks, as is a scene involving a roughly minute long burst from an automatic shotgun which will leave you cackling and nearly deaf. All cheesiness aside though, there are plenty of “whoa” moments, particularly from Jason Statham, providing some nice balance to the flow of the movie.
