Nonino Grappa Monovitigno Picolit Cru
Right in the grapes
Though Grappa sounds like the name of a hirsute villainess out of a comic book, it’s actually considered Italy’s equivalent of French Cognac and Portuguese Sherry. Nonino Grappa Monovitigno Picolit Cru takes this tradition and refines it even further, distilling from a single varietal, the Picolit grape, and using its pomace (grape seeds, stalks and stems after the winemaking process is complete) to issue forth a clear elixir with hints of fresh honeycomb, golden apples and quince. The flavor is also peppered with a slight hint of fresh bread crust. This “Queen of Grappa’s” 50% abv is not pronounced but smooth and refreshing, especially after a three-hour, multi-course Italian face-cramming fest. And even though your trouser button flew off and pelted your friend across the table, this time-tested liquer will have you soothed in no time. Plus, you can add it to your coffee the very next morning to, as the Italian’s say, “correct” it.
