After quite a few reader requests for hotel, destination, adventure and travel recommendations, we’re embarking on a new series of posts called Stay. Culled together from both crew and reader insights, Stay will highlight both exciting and achievable travel along with occasional travel-related gear endorsements. Consider it an ongoing series to satiate your travel bug. Oh, and maybe an excuse to talk about treehouses. As always send tips to sayhello@gearpatrol.com. – The Editors

Converted from a YMCA facility that was home to thousands of WWII soldiers, San Francisco’s Harbor Court Hotel offers light-on-the-wallet fares, old school roots, and a well thought out makeover gives the place a chic look with a lightness for the pompous. Located on the Embarcadero, guests wake up to fantastic views of the Bay and are in walking distance of the world-renowned clam chowder at the Fisherman’s Wharf, or the delicious Saturday farmer’s market. Amenities include generously proportioned flat screen, iPod docks, inviting room designs, plush (if not a bit overly colorful) beds and paint schemes, and free Wi-Fi. Armed with a top notch staff with the right balance of “thank you, sir” and personal space acknowledgment, the Harbor Court also offers evening wine receptions, warm cookies & milk, and pet-friendly accomodations including doggy biscuits for the pets to munch on. Rooms start at $100. More photos after the jump.
