We don’t think graphic designers are somehow better equipped to produce more informative travel guides than other people, but they certainly know how to make them more visually appealing. Graphic USA ($20) is a different kind of travel guide covering 25 popular American cities. Graphic designers from each city were invited to share their own take on their own town, in the form of off beat recommendations on places to stay, dine, drink, and have fun. In addition to the prerequisite blurbs of text, telephone listings, and addresses, each section is packed with vivid illustrations and infographics, allowing it to double as fine coffee table book. The cities included in this book are: Anchorage, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Charleston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Mineappolis, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Providence, San Francisco, Seattle, St Louis and Washington D.C. One horse town’s designer wasn’t invited to participate.
