Mile High Mountaineering Divide 55

A good pack for your back

By Daniel Sullivan on 4.1.11

As the snow melts we have turned our thoughts to summer backpacking trips and the quest for the perfect pack. For the last few weeks, we’ve been testing the Divide 55 ($259), the mid-size pack offering from back pack newcomer Mile High Mountaineering and right off the bat we have to admit, we love it.

Bucking the drab pack designs adventurers are accustomed too, the Divide 55 takes a fresh, smart-looking pack and loads it with features like an integrated stuff sack and water bottle holder at the bottom of the pack and an internal compression system for heavier items like a tent. The Divide’s 55 liters of space can be accessed through a vertical zipper on the front panel or through the traditional top opening making it easier to pack and organize your gear. Using robust 315 denier ripstop Cordura for the entire pack, the Divide 55 also hosts your typical pack features like dual adjustable ice axe loops, compressions straps, hydration compatibility and external gear loops. Our only complaint is that we wish the buckles, especially on the waist belt, were a bit beefier, but we can get over that.
