The Hobie Mirage Oasis Kayak ($2,700) has been re-tooled for 2011 to help improve handling and speed while still maintaining great hauling capacity in the form of three enclosed stowage bins and a large on-deck cargo area. Speaking of hauling, the dual seater also ships with two of Hobie’s unique Mirage drive pedal systems, which makes getting underway easy since it engages the largest muscle group in the body. It’s also a boon for fishermen who can still move the boat while their hands are occupied on the line, and store two rods in the boat’s molded rod holders. Paddles are included of course should you prefer traditional propulsion, or simply need something to whack your co-captain with. Both seats feature plenty of padding, too, and inflatable lumbar supports for enhanced comfort on long voyages. Optional expansions such as a sail kit, electric motor and a live bait tank add even more potential. We’re lobbying for helipad support in 2012.
