If we were to quickly surmise what the Mondrian SoHo hotel is in just 8 words it might be along the lines of: “you might just think you’re a celebrity, also.” Perhaps it’s the crowd, casual meets jetset, or the river of high-heeled women, or highly-tuned design but it wouldn’t surprise us if the hotel soon found itself at the heart of a movie set. The third in the line of Mondrian Hotels (LA and Miami being first), the distinctive Mondrian SoHo has a laid-back, conversation-friendly, yet upscale vibe to it – one of those places that really can transform a two-day business trip or weekend getaway into an extended vacation, if your boss will approve it.

The astonishingly silent rooms are sparingly yet deftly decorated, outfitted with the requisite large flatscreen, impossibly comfortable bed you wonder if you can sneak home somehow and designer toiletries (Malin+Goetz, here), but you’ll also find an iPad and Geneva iPod dock to tinker with while you peer at New York’s bustling skyline through the blue-hued floor to ceiling windows. After you’ve settled into your interim celebrity status, you can celebrate your fleeting prominence with caffeine & surf garb at Saturday’s Surf, down a seafood potlatch at Imperial No. 9, helmed by chef Sam Talbot, or unwind at the Mister H speakeasy. The best part is they’re quite literally right downstairs.
