Your dad. The guy who taught you most of what you know, including the nuances of fine whiskey and the satisfaction of working with your hands. This year, combine both of those valuable life skills to craft Dad a well-deserved drink.

The Boulevardier is a fine, father-friendly cocktail – a timeless classic that’s unpretentious, elegant and demands respect. Much like your old man. It pairs the lush flavors of bourbon with the bitter bite of Campari and the sweet, herbal notes of sweet vermouth. For the best results, use a bourbon that’s got some spice to it, which stands up nicely amidst the other stout ingredients. Tinker with the ratios to suit your tastes, but the recipe after the jump always serves us well.

Mix one up this Father’s Day, and your dad will be impressed with your taste and resourcefulness. And really, he’s got enough ties.

The Boulevardier

1.5 ounces bourbon
1 ounce Campari
1 ounce sweet vermouth

Stir all ingredients with ice in a mixing glass, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist or a cherry.
