Utter the Runco name around most men, and you’ll trigger a chain reaction that ends with their wallet hiding in a cave of happiness, shivering in anticipation of the pillaging to come. The company’s new Light Style 1 HD DLP Projector ($4,000) still packs a wallop of sticker shock, but it’s down right affordable compared to their other products. This single-chip 1080p DLP projector combines Runco’s SuperOnyx, ConstantContrast and ViVix proprietary digital video processing to create inky blacks and a contrast ratio of 10:000:1 and beyond. For those who don’t speak Runcussian, that translates to theater quality imagery at home. If you’ve got money to spare, the system is also completely compatible with Runco’s CineGlide lens, which enables owners to switch between 16:9 and 2.31:1 content with the touch of a button. Are there cheaper DLP projectors options out there? Sure, but it’s always nice to see companies acknowledge the existence of humbler clientele every few decades.
