Epson’s new Megaplex MG-850HD projector ($800) is the perfect home base for digital nomads who typically catch up on movies or TV via their smartphone or tablet. It has all of the usual trappings of a basic 720p projector, pumping out 2800 lumens with connections for USB, VGA, and HDMI sources, and even features an integrated pair of 10W speakers — though you’ll likely get better sonics jacking into a yak. But it also features a built-in carrying handle and dock for playing content from the iPhone or iPad at screen sizes of up to 100-inches. Combined, it’s an interesting feature set for those with a sporadic need for a big screen who can’t stomach the permanence or cost of a traditional HDTV. Look for it to hit shelves later this month and if you do decide to pick one up, don’t let all that portability go to your head. As cool as watching episodes of The Wire in the actual ally’s of west Baltimore may sound over a few brews, isn’t a good idea.
