A silver tequila worth sipping
Tasting Notes: El Tesoro Platinum Tequila
El Tesoro Tequila has been produced for more than 70 years, and the family behind the label has been making our favorite Mexican import for more than 200 years. So it’s safe to assume they know a thing or two about tequila. As the third generation master distiller of El Tesoro, Carlos Camarena is charged with crafting the brand’s full lineup, which leads off with El Tesoro Platinum Tequila ($35).
El Tesoro Platinum is unaged and is bottled within 24 hours of distillation to capture the natural flavors of the agave. On the nose it’s full of earthy agave and fresh citrus, with a touch of rocky minerals. Take a sip to find more agave, plus hints of pepper, tropical fruits and mild vanilla. It’s exceptionally smooth on the palate and deserves to be sipped, rather than downed in a single gulp.
This is one of the more refined blanco tequilas we’ve tasted. If Margaritas are your thing, by all means, make one. But before you do, try it straight. El Tesoro’s soft and silky nature just might change the way you think about unaged tequilas.
