Viewfinder: Craft Cocktails in Detroit
The craft cocktail movement has infiltrated America, with quality bars entrenched on both coasts and studding everywhere between. One of the latest to pop up is Detroit’s Sugar House, which opened in October and slings drinks comprised of artisanal spirits, fresh juices, fruits and herbs and house-made syrups. Ice wise, Sugar House bartenders hand-chip 300 pound blocks, ensuring that each glass receives one or more perfectly-proportioned cubes.
As seen in the video above, the period piece bar is full of dark wood and exposed brick, evoking feelings of prohibition-era speakeasies. The cocktail menu will rotate seasonally, and Sugar House often supplements said menu with daily specials and punches.
All this is good news for Detroit locals, and for us; next time we’re in town, we’ve got a bar to visit.
