Philadelphia-based La Colombe Torrefaction has already captured the hearts of the coffee community and it looks like the charitable clique is next. Their new Lyon coffee ($13) is the result of an alliance with Mr. Amsterdam Vallon himself. 100% of all Lyon sale’s profits will go to the Leonardo DiCaprio foundation, which supports a variety of green projects, like land and ocean preservation, clean water, endangered species protection, disaster relief, and renewable energy.
According to the press release, Lyon is “velvety, nectar like and sweet…a masterpiece of taste achieved by blending directly sourced and sustainably grown coffees from the mountains of Haiti, Peru, Ethiopia, and Brazil.” That’s a mouthful of platitudes for sure, but given our previous experience with their Haiti Blue Forest blend we’re confident it’ll at least be “damn good” while doing good. If you’re wondering where the name came from, — it’s not a homage to Leo’s recurring chin fur — but rather, the name of the semi-wild sustainably grown heirloom coffee from the mountains of Haiti. There’s a video about it after the break.
