Hot on the heels of SIHH we have yet another major watch industry trade show approaching, Baselworld, which takes place in — you guessed it — Basel, Switzerland. Baselworld, which has roots that stretch all the way back to 1917, is the largest event of its kind, and is home to over 1800 exhibitors from the world of horology and jewelry.

Size notwithstanding (Baselworld is huge), there are two main differences between SIHH and Baselword, first and foremost being that since 1986, Baselworld has been open to all watch manufactures, Swiss and otherwise, while SIHH only showcases Swiss brands; and second, Baselworld is open to the public, whereas SIHH is strictly an industry insider affair. That’s right, if you’re so inclined, you can hop on a plane Switzerland and go ogle yourself some watches.

So, who’s showing at Baselworld 2012? Well, Rolex, for starters. Patek Philippe is also an exhibitor, as are pretty much all the Swatch Group brands, such as Omega, Blancpain, Breguet and Glashutte Original. All told, over 100 of the world’s ‘to watch’ manufacturers will be showcasing their wares, which is going to make for one heck of a ride. Stay tuned for further coverage.

Baselworld 2012 takes place from March 8th through the 15th.
