Looking good should never be your first priority when trekking, but that doesn’t mean feeling dirty is fun. The Scrubba Portable Wash Bag ($30) is a new project started by Ashley Newlandon on the Kickstarter competitor IndieGoGo. The idea came to her while prepping for her summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. As she saw it, soaking clothes in water proof sacks worked, but it wasn’t exactly efficient. Washboards, on the other hand, have effectively cleaned garments for centuries — so why not simply integrate one into a bag? The result is a sealable, 6.35 oz bag that incorporates a flexible washboard for scrubbing. 2-3 liters of water plus 2-3 drops of cleaning material can wash several items at once, after removing any excess air via the integrated valve. It’s not rocket science, but it’s the best solution we’ve seen for avoiding the Mugatu Derelict-look when striking out in the wild.
