If you asked me a few months ago what organizing, insurance and my iPhone had in common I probably wouldn’t have been able to give you a decent answer.
But for the past few months, I’ve been using the Allstate Digital Locker app to catalog my belongings and in particular my camera collection, which contains everything from my day-to-day Canon DSLR down to a few older, collectible pieces, like the Polaroid Land Camera my father gave me. By no means is my collection large, in fact, it’s probably humble by any collector’s standards, but what it lacks in volume it more than makes up for in sentimental value.
To keep track of everything, the Allstate Digital Locker app has made organizing and insuring things a cinch through the use of yet another camera, the one on my iPhone. The process is simple: launch the app, take a photo of each camera, assign values to each, organize them into their own category and file it away in the cloud just in case disaster strikes. On a side note, I’ve used the app to catalog most all the other valuables in my home too and all my data is stored in the cloud. The app is free, it’s easy to use and makes the process of insurance just a little less painful — unlike developing film.
