Love it or hate it, the new 2012 BMW 335i (internally, F30) makes a bold statement. A continuation of BMWs design language found in the current 5 and 7 series, especially in the completely reworked front fascia with its exposed kidney grilles and elongated headlamps, the 335i makes no bones about what it’s here to do. Impress.
A 3.0 liter twin-turbo inline six engine with 300 horsepower (300 lb-ft torque), and the kind of handling and performance that make us dream about autocrossing on the way to work, can all be found in the new 335, but it’s not all guts and no green. Arriving with 33 mpg highway, the thought of a 1-2 eco-performance punch is refreshing. Kind of like taking in a cold, fat-free gelato after bench pressing a Steinway.
