Ducati motorcycles are the kind of machines that make us sweat, bleed and tear up all at once — and that’s a good thing. The introduction of the king of the Ducati superbikes makes us grovel. The Ducati 1199 Panigale R ($29,995) has assumed the throne, and he’s all business.

Not just your standard 1199 Panigale (which is controlled fury enough), the R includes a host of upgrades that make it the beast of the ball. Titanium connecting rods for lightness and strength, a lighter flywheel, DLC-coated rocker-arms, and a bump in horsepower via ECU and exhaust changes all translate from Ducati Corse (motorcycle speak for Ducati Racing) involvement. To help prevent an accident, the R also has ABS, traction control and engine braking. All good news. One more thing: you might want to stay off the pizza so you don’t waste the fact that the R is Ducati’s lightest superbike at 416 pounds.
