If Gumpert vehicles were as homely as their name, they might look something like this, but lucky for us, the German manufacturer makes some of the fastest and best handling supercars in the world and thankfully survived insolvency this past summer. Based on photos of their next design, the Gumpert Tornante, it looks like all that brouhaha is behind them.

Though there’s no real word on final design, it looks like the Tornante’s design will look far less utilitarian than the bespoilered and commercial warehouse vented Apollo. Looking not unlike a combination of a Porsche 918 Spyder and an Auto Union racer, the Tornante should push out upwards of 700 horsepower from its twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8 with a six-speed semi-automatic transmission. And if it accelerates and handles anything like the Apollo, we’ll see some serious performance. And it’ll surely echo in an era when you can drive a Gumpert in public and not look like a man with a ton of money and not much taste. Pricing and release date yet to be announced.
