The 1-pound, 6.9mm-thick (that’s thinner than the iPad mini) Sony Xperia Tablet Z pushes gadget bulimia to new highs as the thinnest 10-inch fingerprint magnet on the market. But while the fat’s been trimmed, all the muscle’s still there — including a Qualcomm 1.5GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, an 8.1MP Exmor R rear camera, 2MP front camera, NFC, LET, a microSD slot, “S-Force” virtual surround sound and a 10.1-inch full HD screen. Like its companion Xperia Z smartphone, the slate is also waterproof and dustproof, finally leaving users free to start Oprah marathons in the bubble bath on a whim.

Its 6,000mAh battery, in contrast, isn’t exactly stellar — but Sony’s power management software tweaks to Android Jelly Bean (and curbing your Netflix addiction) could balance things out. Pricing and availability details stateside haven’t been shared at this stage; Japan will of course be the tablet Z’s first home. Our cunning inner Wallstreet tech analyst is willing to go out on a limb, though, and “predict” that it’ll come to our shores for a price somewhere around the $500 mark. Now get back to putzing around on your fatso iPad Mini.
