If you haven’t been off the grid in the wilderness, you may have noticed that we’re wrapping up our series on the best day hikes of America. While we cover hiking and the outdoors throughout the year, over the past summer months we’ve been focused on finding the best day hikes in the northeast, west and midwest (south coming soon), but we don’t want to stop there. We want to find hikes with a story behind them, with a photograph to place us there. But, alas, we’re tired. In our research we’ve managed to break a foot and sprain an ankle, or two. We’ve maxed out our vacation time and even totaled a car. It’s time for a breather.
Well, not entirely: we’re giving away a sweet Daylite Madden Equipment Backpack stuffed with outdoor goodies.
In return, we’re calling on your hard-earned, mud-stained, weary-legged knowledge. We want to see and hear about your best local hikes. From the bald eagles of Alaska to the balding retirees of Florida, from the humid Low Country of South Carolina to the arid desert of Southern California, we want to gather your hiking insight and little-known trails in one place: Readers’ Choice: 15 Best Day Hikes in America.
How to Enter
To submit, simply hashtag photos on Instagram or Twitter with #GPHikes and include @gearpatrol in your comment so we can find/see you, plus the name and location of the trail. Follow us while you’re at it so we can reach out to the winner. If you fly under the social media radar, you can also send us trail photos via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The best entry will be selected in two weeks. So strap on your hiking boots and comb the scruff. The trails (and some cool gear) are waiting.
