Though the apparel industry has heralded the performance attributes of merino wool, the footwear industry has been slow on the uptake. No longer.
San Francisco-based Allbirds designed a merino-wool runner that is dirt- and odor-resistant, moisture wicking and machine washable. The merino upper sits above an insole made of vegetable-oil-based polyurethane, and the whole package results in an incredibly lightweight shoe rooted in sustainable manufacturing practices and a sub-$100 price tag. For one final bonus, the shoe also looks as great as it wears.
