At the end of last week, ahead of today’s holiday, President Obama designated three new national monuments with historical ties to the Civil Rights Movement: Birmingham, Alabama will be home to the Civil Rights National Historical Park, while the Freedom Riders National Monument will include a Greyhound bus station in Anniston, Alabama; Reconstruction Era National Monument is the final new monument, located in Beaufort County, South Carolina.
