Oh, yes, you can get your optional external SuperDrive, but doesn’t that just defeat the purpose of being so slender and mobile? Also, magnetic lids…magnets + computers? What?
With no Firewire, there doesn’t seem to be a way to capture a movie from your video camera to this computer. Am I missing something?

Hey dumbass they are already using, and have been using magnetic lids in their MBP laptops. And what about speakers? Don’t you think those have magnets? Not to mention hard drives themselves contain magnets.

And still, for $1800, I’d love the ability to play a CD. Instead, my $1800 would be getting me an LED-backlit keyboard, since I look at my keyboard so much. That’s exactly what Mac products do, with everything. Substitute style and “cool” for practicality, charge twice as much, and convince hordes of people that they need the product to be “cool”.
Not a problem, I’m here for you buddy. But yeah I agree the price tag is pretty steep for what you get. It would have been nice if there was a docking station it attached to with more ports, another hard drive for more space, and an optical drive.
This is pretty cool, just like all innovative Mac products, but just like any other mac product (or at least the iPod); it will have problems in the first release. The first iPod had serious battery problems and such. I didn’t get one until the 5th gen. I predict the same thing to happen with the iPhone. With the steep price and this being the first release, I would wait for future versions before buying an Air.
Do people seriously use CDs and DVDs that much that not having a drive is such a terrible thing? So many movies can be downloaded, copied, transferred from external harddrive to other external harddrive by USB, across the network, etc. Most of your CDs and DVDs are just going to be sitting in your room anyway…an external optical seems reasonable. As for apple’s pricing, well…that’s standard apple. There should be no surprise about how ridiculously expensive it is. I wonder how version 2 will be different, or maybe they’ll just call it the Macbook Air Pro, and charge twice as much.

Remote disc… Remote friggin’ disk. This machine is built to be THE wireless computer. Not the, “I’d like a burger, fries… and a shake… also, why don’t you toss in some cheese curds and a pie.” computer. shit.

But you caaan always get your “burger, fries… and a shake… also, why don’t you toss in some cheese curds and a pie.” computer… for a lower price, in a much larger package… with more crap built into it but overall still holding onto older technology to please to idiot masses… it’s your choice.

I wasn’t trying to act like I knew about the magnetic lids. I’ll admit it, I didn’t know Macbook Pro’s had magnetic lids. Sorry if you didn’t catch that.

macbook pro’s having magnetic lids? come ON people powerbook G4’s have magnetic-locking clasps (sort-of an in-betweener) I think even iBooks did!!! My powerbook’s from 2004!!! and my it (being all of 12″) has a sub in it (ok not a wOOfer but yes it technically is a subwoofer) and that also has a really strong magnet. Papercilps stick to my computer!!

Actually, this particular admin was just feeling out the crowd to see what might interest you all in an upcoming giveaway we’ve got planned. Honestly, I’d love a macbook air for the sheer sake of ridiculousness, but I’d never give up my Macbook Pro and Dell XPS as my primary machines.
