MacBook Air
“The World’s Thinnest Notebook”
Got your attention yet?
When Apple makes a claim, they tend to not pad them. The MacBook Air is going to slot right between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro, but let us tell you. This laptop, announced just this morning, is compact. 0.16″ at it’s thinnest point and 0.76″ at it’s thickest. It will literally fit inside of an envelope and at it’s thickest point is smaller than the thinnest part of the class leading Sony TZ series.
The MacBook Air has a 13.3″ LED backlit display, 1.6 Ghz or 1.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (60% smaller design specifically made for this laptop - wide as a dime, thick as a nickel), black LED backlit keyboard, built in iSight webcam, ambient light sensor, magnetic latch closing mechanism, multi-touch trackpad (with double tap, pivot and rotate, pinch zoom), 1.8″ hard drive in standard 80 GB form or optional 64 GB solidstate drive (no moving parts), 45 Watt MagSafe power adapter, Micro-DVI video output, 802.11n wireless, Bluetooth 2.1/EDR, 5 hour battery life, optional external SuperDrive, 2 GB memory, and last but not least: environmentally friendly internal components like fully aluminum case, mercury and lead free display, BFR free circuit boards.
What this means to you: Everyone is on the quest to find the perfect combination of features and weight in laptops and lighter is always better. The MacBook Air represents a major leap forward in laptop design. Ready your wallets, pre-orders start today.

I just pre-ordered 3; one for me, my mother, and of course, my pet lizard.
Wow, $1800 and you don’t get a built-in CD drive? Impressive.
In the worst way possible.
Oh, yes, you can get your optional external SuperDrive, but doesn’t that just defeat the purpose of being so slender and mobile? Also, magnetic lids…magnets + computers? What?
With no Firewire, there doesn’t seem to be a way to capture a movie from your video camera to this computer. Am I missing something?
Ryan:
“…magnets + computers? What?”
Hey dumbass they are already using, and have been using magnetic lids in their MBP laptops. And what about speakers? Don’t you think those have magnets? Not to mention hard drives themselves contain magnets.

I didn’t say that you couldn’t have magnets, I was asking about it. Thanks for the clarification, Mr. Classy.
And still, for $1800, I’d love the ability to play a CD. Instead, my $1800 would be getting me an LED-backlit keyboard, since I look at my keyboard so much. That’s exactly what Mac products do, with everything. Substitute style and “cool” for practicality, charge twice as much, and convince hordes of people that they need the product to be “cool”.
Not a problem, I’m here for you buddy. But yeah I agree the price tag is pretty steep for what you get. It would have been nice if there was a docking station it attached to with more ports, another hard drive for more space, and an optical drive.
This is pretty cool, just like all innovative Mac products, but just like any other mac product (or at least the iPod); it will have problems in the first release. The first iPod had serious battery problems and such. I didn’t get one until the 5th gen. I predict the same thing to happen with the iPhone. With the steep price and this being the first release, I would wait for future versions before buying an Air.
Do people seriously use CDs and DVDs that much that not having a drive is such a terrible thing? So many movies can be downloaded, copied, transferred from external harddrive to other external harddrive by USB, across the network, etc. Most of your CDs and DVDs are just going to be sitting in your room anyway…an external optical seems reasonable. As for apple’s pricing, well…that’s standard apple. There should be no surprise about how ridiculously expensive it is. I wonder how version 2 will be different, or maybe they’ll just call it the Macbook Air Pro, and charge twice as much.
Dude: Gaming. Not only do Macs tend not to run games well, if you need a CD to play the game, well, hm, sorry.
Murph: Mac products are rarely innovative, but they sure market them as if they are.
Ryan, you’re an idiot. Stop pretending you knew about the magnetic lids.
“Also, magnetic lids…magnets + computers? What?”

“I didn’t say that you couldn’t have magnets, I was asking about it. Thanks for the clarification, Mr. Classy.
Read a freaking spec sheet or watch the Keynote…
“And still, for $1800, I’d love the ability to play a CD.”
Remote disc… Remote friggin’ disk. This machine is built to be THE wireless computer. Not the, “I’d like a burger, fries… and a shake… also, why don’t you toss in some cheese curds and a pie.” computer. shit.
“Instead, my $1800 would be getting me an LED-backlit keyboard, since I look at my keyboard so much.” …And the smallest laptop in existence by .04″ at it’s tallest point… 400mhz-600mhz faster processor then competition in a smaller form… larger touch pad, new functions for the touch pad… full size keyboard, 13.3″ screen, etc etc etc… the shit is worth $1800 if the above apply to you. But you caaan always get your “burger, fries… and a shake… also, why don’t you toss in some cheese curds and a pie.” computer… for a lower price, in a much larger package… with more crap built into it but overall still holding onto older technology to please to idiot masses… it’s your choice.
Yea… pre-Intel…
“Dude: Gaming. Not only do Macs tend not to run games well, if you need a CD to play the game, well, hm, sorry.”
I wasn’t trying to act like I knew about the magnetic lids. I’ll admit it, I didn’t know Macbook Pro’s had magnetic lids. Sorry if you didn’t catch that.
And maybe I’m a fatty and I want my shake, cheese curds, and pie. Isn’t that just the American way?
LOL…
you guys are so infantile.
even after i type this someone will say something to slam on someone else.
get a life
So, here’s a question for you all:
If there was a chance to win a MacBook Air as part of a giveaway, would that be something you’d consider entering?
macbook pro’s having magnetic lids? come ON people powerbook G4’s have magnetic-locking clasps (sort-of an in-betweener) I think even iBooks did!!! My powerbook’s from 2004!!! and my it (being all of 12″) has a sub in it (ok not a wOOfer but yes it technically is a subwoofer) and that also has a really strong magnet. Papercilps stick to my computer!!
Certainly a product pertaining to particular tastes. For those who are keen on the MacBook Air, or are generally interested in it, a new MacBook Air User network has been launched at www.thinkmacbookair.com
i love how the admin tried asking a question to get this thing to a relatively different topic and we’re still givin ryan crap about these lids LOL…. Admin, yes, I would enter a free giveaway lol…
@ Ryan (19:36:47) : well then who is the innovator? I thought mac invented everything and then windows stole it lol… (uhh… VISTA) lol
Actually, this particular admin was just feeling out the crowd to see what might interest you all in an upcoming giveaway we’ve got planned. Honestly, I’d love a macbook air for the sheer sake of ridiculousness, but I’d never give up my Macbook Pro and Dell XPS as my primary machines.
