Face bender. That’s about the only way I can describe the feeling of going zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. About the time you can say “damn, that’s fast” the Caterham R500 will be going 60mph and well on it’s way to an electronically limited speed of “holy shit.”

Caterham has melded a 2.0 liter Ford Duratec engine tuned to 263hp into a 1,116 pound vehicle with Eibach springs, Carbon Induction Airbox, four pot calipers, Avon track-day tires and other carbon fiber elements including the dash.

Already bringing other overpriced supercars to their knees the Superlight 500 will contort and twist your face into play-doh, making moments out of minute-long miles. It’s a sports car in it’s truest form. Two seats, no frills and an engine that’s equivalent to 520hp per ton.

What this means to you: You know you’re in a serious car when the Momo steering wheel is removal, there “launch control” feature is listed proudly and the only reason there’s a keyless ignition is for weight saving reasons.

Cost: $72,800 @ Caterham
