There are few places more enjoyable than a cigar lounge. The sweet aroma of tobacco, the soothing jazz carrying throughout, and your hand alternating between your cigar and scotch of choice (neat of course)… are bar none.

If you live in New York City or have visited any of NY’s many cigar lounges, you most likely envisioned all that the Johnson Club Room at Nat Sherman embodies. The Johnson Club Room is the quintessential New York cigar lounge and here’s why…

The Johnson Club Room is a lounge because it’s not a cigar bar in the typical sense (even though they serve a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks).

I say lounge because it’s very different from bars in the city because this place is anything but over-crowded and uncomfortably packed. They are members only and the guest pass policy lets you enjoy a cigar and a drink without having to shout or yell orders at the barkeep.

As stated earlier, The Johnson Club Room is quintessential New York City. Specifically because Nat Sherman has operated in this city under the same family since 1930 as well as their menu of light fare featuring locally procured items. The meatballs are from the famous Patsy’s, the salmon pastrami is from Russ & Daughters in New York’s Lower East Side and the cheese is from Murray’s Cheese on Bleeker Street. Drinks, smokes, food – I can’t think of a better way to wind down from a day of work or a spend a Saturday afternoon.

If you’re worried about their member’s only policy, don’t be. You can buy a single day pass for $25 (cigar included) or just inquire about membership. The folks at Nat Sherman are the farthest thing from elitist (unlike other cigar shops). The passes are meant so everyone can relax and enjoy a smoke.

What this means to you: If you live or work in the city, this is the place to enjoy a smoke and a drink. If you don’t live here, make sure The Johnson Club Room is a stop on your next visit.
