Most all of the Gear Patrol writers reside in large metropolitan areas. Manhattan anyone? So we know the pains of urban living. Outside Magazine published their annual 20 Best Towns in America feature in the recently circulated August issue. This editor hails from Tennessee, so he’s proud to see a sister city on the list. Here are 10 of Outside’s 20 Best Towns in America:

  1. Washington D.C.
  2. Chattanooga, Tennessee (pictured)
  3. Ogden, Utah
  4. Portsmouth, New Hampshire
  5. Tacoma, Washington
  6. Ithaca, New York
  7. Louisville, Kentucky
  8. Eureka, California
  9. Crested Butte, Colorado
  10. Columbia, Missouri

Previous years can be seen here. Make sure to pick up the magazine on news stands to read the rest. To those of you looking to permanently escape the urban grind, we could think of few better places.

I clicked on “previous years” and what did I see? My current and temporary home, Iowa City, IA listed in the top ten of 2007.

Corn FTW.

And also, the “perfect 48 hours” in Iowa City, that dude nailed my daily routine. I’m not joking… its a little scary.
