SimCity Minus The Game

google-earth-3d-new-york.jpg

Google Maps + GPS + iPhone is a toolset I cannot live without, especially here in New York where a man’s sense of direction is tested every time someone suggests going to a restaurant outside of the neighborhood. It’s also a demonstrable skill women find inherently attractive in men. No joke.

Using the combined prowess of what I imagine to be many engineers/mad-scientists, Google has unveiled Google Earth 3D, starting with Gear Patrol’s own New York City, no less. Amazingly, you can see nearly every structure in eye-tantalizing 3D. This, combined with the recent unveiling of SimCity for the iPhone (fist-pump), will satisfy any man’s delusions of a mayoral candidacy.

Anthony Huang | New Contributing Editor

From Eric Yang: Gents, we’ve got a new Contributing Editor. Actually, he’s been around for some time now, secretly publishing articles and avoiding my persistent requests to finish up his biography so I could officially introduce him to you. Located in Memphis, TN, Anthony is ever-so-close to becoming the Gear Patrol Crew’s M.D. - in a few years he’ll finish up his residency. His passion for finding incredible deals on men’s gear is unparalleled, and I challenge any man to find a deal/steal he hasn’t already discovered.

Anthony finds golfing in flip-flops and stormy weather to be conducive to lowering his handicap.

Hello, gentlemen; this is Anthony, and this is my long-awaited bio post (according to the ever-pestering Eric, anyway).

Personally, I think Gear Patrol is making me poorer. Not the best idea in today’s economy but, what the hell - hopefully, Citi will fall after I purchase a few barrels of JD. As one of the very first readers, I’ve enjoyed watching the site grow from one new post every few days to several articles daily - finding more and more gear I could add to my ever-growing collection. So, I find it a great honor that I was selected to join The GP Crew.

Despite many failed attempts to get Eric to write my bio for me (so I could envelop myself in Call of Duty at his pad), he remained stalwart, and I was relegated to alternative measures: interviewing myself. So without further ado, I give you Anthony vs. Anthony - on the hot seat. [Continued after the jump]

Perfect Pullup

perfect-pullup.jpg

Chances are, there’s a pull up bar somewhere in your home that doesn’t really do much more than provide a place to hang your clothes or do a few basic pullups.

perfect-pullup-machine.jpgHence the need to for the Perfect Pullup. This writer’s had a few months now with the Perfect Pullup and can attest to its utility. Besides being able to perform your standard pull up with their patented rotating handles (see: The Perfect Pushup), the biggest benefit of this system is that the bar swings down, allowing you to perform Standing Rows and, more importantly, the Australian pull up (more commonly known as the inverted row).

These are exercises that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to do at home without another piece of equipment or some major Macgyver-ing. The inverted row is easily one of the single best exercises for strengthening your upper back and rear shoulders. Better yet, it can easily be modified based on your current fitness level.

Editor’s Note: Combine this with a bench, swiss ball, and a set of dumbells to complete your home gym, sans all the bulk.

Cost: $79 | $99 w/Ab Straps

Paul McCartney: The Space Within Us

Sir Paul In Stunning Hi-Def

paul-mccartney-the-space-within.jpgFans of the Beatles, the ex-Beatles, or just plain good music will thrill and possibly even trill to the Blu-ray release of Paul McCartney’s 2005 US tour concert retrospective, Paul McCartney: The Space Within Us on high definition Blu-Ray disc.

This concertourmentery expertly weaves a number of prominent celebrity interviews together with fan ramblings and on-stage footage, all narrated by McCartney himself. As you’d expect, the visuals and audio tracks are magnificent on high definition media, and the Blu-ray extras bring in some nice features such as a jukebox mode that allows the viewer to select and order his favorite performances, omitting the intervening documentary footage.

The Space Within Us is a great capture of a musical legend and those whom his works have touched.

Cost: $20

Zenvo ST1

“This Car Can Drive Across Denmark In About 18 Minutes”

zenvo_st1.jpg

Image & Quote Courtesy: The Truth About Cars

Economic downturn be damned, I want 1,104 horsepower. I want it delivered through a manual gearbox to a pair of rear wheels that will vault me to 60 in about as long as it takes to say the word “3 seconds”. I want it to go to 233 mph limited only by (in)sanity. Oh, and I want it to look like it was etched by the devil himself from a block of sinful aluminum with Louise Glover as his muse.

If it happens to be hand-built by insane Danish men then I’m okay with that. If it also happens to cost an amount that cannot be disclosed then so be it.
