I can’t tell you how many times I’ve held up pending group shots whilst searching for a stable surface on which to perch my camera. Enter a simple, elegant solution to my problem created by Manfrotto (Italian makers of professional photography staging equipment, not denizens of Middle Earth). It’s called the Modopocket and, quite simply, it’s brilliant.

Easily carried in your pocket, I find it just as well to leave it attached to my camera full-time. It is completely unobtrusive. Offering a good range of vertical tilt as well as the ability to level uneven surfaces, the Modopocket is at ease supporting my well-worn P200 (in action above); it’s no less troubled in service to my Nikon DSLR (shown below), considering that the Modopocket doesn’t impair the use of a traditional tripod by way of it’s own mounting port. So, unless you are perfectly content spending all of your time behind the camera (and who doesn’t like to be in pictures), the Modopocket is an essential companion to your camera.

Cost: $30 @ Amazon
