v-moda-vibe-ii-headphonesOne month with the V-MODA Vibe II headphone/headset has proven two things:

  1. There is a decent combination headphone/headset solution for iPods and media players.
  2. You don’t have to compromise weight for functionality and sound quality.

The V-Moda Vibe II’s are successors to the popular Vibe headphones, which a couple of the guys here at Gear Patrol rock (Anthony and Brian). The original Vibe’s were popular for their balance of audio prowess and design. Guys looking to upgrade won’t be disappointed. Personally, I prefer the more industrial look of the original Vibe headphones, but the Vibe II’s sound quality will have you thinking listening otherwise.

The Vibe II’s offer outstanding bass response (stronger, without the boom reverb of the originals) and a tonal clarity the originals simply didn’t have. According to V-Moda they’re using a new V-MASQUE dynamic driver to provide a more natural soundstage. I believe it. Moving onto design, the threaded-fabric cord is a nice touch. It’s prone to tangling, but only if you crumble up your headphones and shove them in your pocket, which I imagine a lot of guys might be inclined to do. Wrap it around your device, and you’ll be set.

As for the mic, I’ll simply share this story. Recently, I made a phone call while walking home in the light rain. Wet roads, taxis, and general city noise were almost non-existent on the other end. As a matter of fact, his comment was “you’re walking?”. Enough said.

The V-Moda Vibe II’s come packaged with a gaggle of accessories as you can see above. Four bud sizes, clip-on sport earhooks for running and a carrying pouch.
