Troy,
I'm my training, I've found Hal Higdon's plans and advice to be excellent. http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm That's a link to his novice training plan, there are more advanced ones as well. There are other free resources as well as books and paid content on his site. Higdon is an old dude who is an authority on distance running and training. A beast!

Any links to a helpful training plan to build up to a half marathon? the amount of results generated by a google search is overwhelming.

Haha! This was fantastic! I've ran one marathon myself and I think you and I are of the same mindset. School and work are keeping me from running this year though. Oh well.

I absolutely agree. I have run one full and coming up on my fourth half marathon. You are spot on with the 50% of the people there aren't there to win... they're there to have a great time, burn a few calories and get the shirt.

Michael -

Great article, I haven't braved the full marathon just yet, a couple half marathons completed and I've got a couple triathlons scheduled for the summer. Good luck with your next!
