The Pro Stick
Sticking it to Muscle Knots

The Stick is an admittedly a simplistic device used to aid athletes in recovery and maintenance. Built around a “space-age” plastic core, it is sheathed in free rolling plastic spindles secured between two handles. The core is flexible to allow it to contour to the targeted body part, and the spindles allow it to move freely to knead your muscles, occasionally taking some body hair with them.
What The Stick lacks in complexity, it more than makes up for in performance. It’s meant to allow athletes to do what’s called a stripping massage (sorry fellas, this isn’t a class your lady friend can take at CRUSH) on themselves. Basically, the stripping massage technique is meant to break up muscle knots. I first stumbled on the The Stick in the Athletic Training room when I wrestled in college and definitely attempted to smuggle it out more than a few times.
I’ve been using the Pro Stick again for the last month or so, and it’s excellent. I can work out knots in my muscles anywhere except my back and even if I don’t have any knots, it’s a good way to loosen up. My wife is training for a road race and has also used it repeatedly to rub out her legs.
Now, why not hear more about it from The Pro Stick spokesman Tim Borland, a guy who ran 63 marathons in 63 days. Yes… 63 days. If that’s not credentials for you, I don’t know what is.
Bottom Line: The Stick does away with all the usual gimmicks that surround massage products and does a much better job in the process. So if you’re out there pushing your body on a regular basis, it’s worth picking up.

solid review jon, and nice man thighs
63 marathons. That lies comfortably in the land between insanity and incredible…
63 marathons? Just beat me with the Stick, it'd be less painful.
In my book 63 marathons in 63 days squarely lands in the insanity camp. Damn impressive, but certifiable.
i need to get one of these! the stick would be awesome for after a long hike!
I'm a big fan of the stick. Great for use both before and after runs, and I think it comes in a couple of different lengths, too. What I am not a fan of is when your leg hard gets caught in the spindles. Ieeeeeee!
It is indeed rough on the "leg hards"
Under different circumstances, these couple of lines could sound quite different……lol
You know, thanks to this marvelous new commenting system, I could edit that post, but that would destroy the comedic value. Thus, I stand by my previous statement. Leg hards are always getting in the way. Also, getting your leg HAIR caught in the Stick is not very fun.
@ doverby: that's what she said.
Seriously, all the hard core marathon guys aka MAMA (marathon a month) use this. They always pull it out of the trunk right after the race and go to it. I think allot of them along with me would vouch for this guy.
Jon,
nice review - agree w/ you that the Stick is great. I have used it since 1994 and am constantly amazed how easy it is to find those debilitating trigger points and feel better in less than 30 seconds per muscle group. I recover faster, feel better and I can do this myself and I am surprised how long this Stick lasts - have not worn it out yet
- I had the Marathon Stick, which I still love for my calves, but like the Stiff Stick much better, as it digs in much deeper into my hamstrings and ITB.
